Youth/Adult Coordinating Committee Meeting Notes

September Meeting Notes

GREAT TURN-OUT!! THANKS TO ALL WHO CAME!

The name change from YACC (Youth Adult Coordinating Committee) to simply St. Richard's Youth Group was approved by the Faith Formation Commission. The youth group has a slogan: "Say YESS! to Youth Experiencing Spirituality and Service!" The winner of the itunes gift card was Jennifer M.

(Youth group meetings are still held every third Sunday of the month for youth & parents to attend. For more detailed planning, youth and adults are encouraged to attend the St. Richards' Youth Group Steering Committee.)

We evaluated the Kiddie Karnival - It was another huge success!!! Thanks to all who helped!

There was brainstorming about existing games and new ideas. Our Tin Toss game needs some fixing and we need to re-make our Lollipop Tree. Fr. Tom Bucks will be re-named "Fun Bucks." Other new ideas included: Henna Tattoos, Temporary Tattoos, Remote control races, Hidden Door/Fishing Game, and having an inflatable obstacle course. People suggested bringing back: Spin Art, Mini-Golf, and Face Painting. Our miniature golf set is not in good condition. We will look for another one.

Youth and adults are encouraged to look on-line or at other carnivals for new game ideas and bring them to Kristen's attention.

In the past our balloons had screen printing on them. It would be expensive to have a new one made. It was suggested that we could try to find balloons with a generic logo/print rather than paying for one specific to St. Richards. Printing on the balloons or not, kids love them!!

The next discussion piece was the challenge of getting enough volunteers to work all of the games. Ideas were to invite friends to help and to advertise in the BTCS newsletter.

With the name change & slogan being approved, we came back to the t-shirt idea. Last year we talked about youth & adults all having t-shirts to wear that help us stand out as the youth group. We waited on getting anything until the name change process had been completed. The idea of tye-dying our shirts came up. This is a great idea because then each youth can make their shirt 'their own' while still having our basic information on it. More to come on that!

Other ideas for the year were:
- Having an October event in addition to the Youth Overnight (which is really a Faith Formation event.) If people are interested in going to ValleyScare with St. Bonaventure, let Kristen know!
- Going to the Water Park of America.

Finally, we made new signs for some of the Kiddie Karnival games, said a prayer and then departed.

Thanks, again, for all who were able to join us!!!
