Liturgical Ministries
Sacristans Open and set-up church for Mass on weekdays, Saturday/Sundays, Holy Days, special services. 1-3
hours on rotating basis
Prayer Presiders Assist in leading prayer for the community for morning prayer, vespers, communion services, vigil prayers and graveside
prayers. Training required and provided. 1-2 times per month
Lectors Proclaim the Word of God at Sunday, weekday, and Holy Day liturgies. Training provided. 1-2 times

Eucharistic Ministers Distribute Eucharist at weekday, Sunday, and Holy Day liturgies. Training provided.

Servers 4th grade through adults to serve during the Sunday and special liturgies. Training is provided and servers are scheduled at the

Greeters Welcome and greet parishioners before the Sunday liturgies; schedule is rotated and greeters are assigned for the liturgies they

Ushers Usher for Sunday and Holy Day liturgies-men and women greet people, assist with seating, take up the collection, distribute
bulletins, and pick up in church after liturgies. serve on a weekly basis as available
Gift Bearers Bring the gifts of bread and wine forward during a Sunday liturgy. Please call the parish office and let us know if you'd
like to do this for a particular liturgy, or volunteer with the ushers when you arrive at church; wonderful way to mark a special occasion:
birthday, anniversary, guests visiting, etc. periodically
Eucharistic Adorer Pray before the Blessed Sacrament on First Fridays between 8:30am and 5:30pm. 1 hour a
month as scheduled
Liturgical Schedulers and Mailers Schedule all liturgical ministers, compile and distribute schedule for all liturgies and other services.
2-3 hours, 3-4 times per year
Funeral Ministry Assist with set-up the day of the funeral, assist the presider as needed, occasionally serve as lector and/or Eucharistic
minister, may preside at graveside and/or wake service. 1½ - 3 hours each funeral
Environment Ministry
Plan/prepare environment for worship and church related spaces for the various liturgical seasons; also do sewing, purchasing, ordering, decorating
and ironing. seasonal
Music Ministries
Ensemble Lead the assembly in song at the 5:00pm and 11:00am liturgies; need instrumentalists, cantors and singers (seventh grade to
adult). rehearsals are held Tuesday evenings weekly and 1 hour prior to Mass
9:00am Choir Lead the assembly in song; need instrumentalists, cantors and singers (tenth grade to adult).
rehearsals are held on Tuesday evenings from September through May, plus 45 min. before 9:00am Sunday Mass
Children's Choir Children in grades two through six; rotate singing at Saturday 5pm, Sunday 9am or 11am. Masses monthly from September
through May. rehearsals are most Wednesday evenings from 6:00-6:45pm
Handbell Choirs Adult group presently exists; youth group to be formed. rehearsals weekly, play monthly at
Mass
Other Sacraments
RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults)
Catechists: lead conversation about a particular subject (could be one time, or several). 1 hour each time,
plus preparation time
Hospitality ministers: welcome participants, set up treats, assist with Vigil reception. 1 1/2 hours each
gathering, 1 hour after Vigil
Breaking Open the Word leaders: lead conversation regarding scripture readings. 1 hour every Sunday after
11:00 Mass intercessions, Advent thru Easter, plus preparation time - can be shared among several people, and divided up seasonally (Advent,
Christmas, Ordinary Time, Lent)
Sponsors: be with the catechumens/candidates throughout the process and participate in the discussions. 1-2
hours almost every week from Sept.- Easter - 7 weekday evenings (Sept-Nov.), Sunday mornings, beginning with 11 :00 Mass (Advent - Easter)
Post Baptism Adults to help plan a post-baptism event in January. 2-3 hours
Adults to serve a meal at a post-baptism event in January. 2-4 hours
Adult to provide child care for parents attending post-baptism session. 2 hours once in January
Confirmation Help prepare and serve the lunch for the confirmation retreat. 3 hours on a Saturday in April or May
Help prepare, serve and clean up for the parish celebration for confirmands. Spring date on the Sunday after 11 am Mass for the Rite of Sending.

Pastoral Care Ministry
Prayer Network Join others praying for parishioners and their needs. Prayer list is available at the parish office, or can be requested by

Anointing Service (Oct.) Greeters/ushers: welcome people, help them with nametags, assist them into church. ½

Help with reception after: set up, serve, clean up (cookies and coffee). 1 hour in Oct.
Prayer Service Ministers Lead a prayer service (with communion) at an area senior residence or nursing home.
1 hour/month to 1 hour/week, depending on the place
Ministers to the homebound and/or hospitalized Visit with and take communion to a homebound person. Set up
individually, but usually 1 hour every week, every 2 weeks, or every month
Visit with and take communion to the hospitalized as needed. approx. 1 hour/month
BeFrienders Visit (no communion) those who request it: the grieving, lonely, angry, troubled, etc. 1-2

Fostering Faith Formation
Sunday Preschool Catechists who work as a team under the guidance of the preschool coordinator in each age level 3, 4, and 5 year olds twice
monthly during 11:00 Sunday Mass. 2-4 hours preparation, 1.5 hours on-site 9 months
Classroom aides, adult or teens, to be present in each classroom 1, 2, or 3 weeks per month to assist children and catechists and help with snacks.

Children's Liturgy of the Word Adults to train to be a prayer leader for Children's Liturgy of the Word. 3-4
hours initial training plus one rotation per month during 11:00 Mass. 1-2 hours preparation time each month
Children to act as banner carrier leading into 11:00 Mass and leading children from the assembly. before and during
CLW on a monthly rotation for a year
Faith Formation Help collate and prepare registration materials for mailing for all families with children of the parish ages 3-18.

Organize the annual Trick-or-Treat tailgating event last Sunday of October. 2-4 adults --Public relations,
activities, set-up, refreshments, 6-8 hours 3-4 adults-- On-site presence and security, 4 pm to 6:30 pm
Decorate and deliver cookies and prepare greetings for homebound parishioners. 2-3 hours one Saturday in fall or

Organize Christmas caroling for parishioners followed or preceded by a social. 2-4 adults -- 4-6 hours during

Middle Grades Catechists to work under the guidance of the middle grade coordinator in each of 6th, 7th, and 8th grades for 1-2 five-week
class rotations yearly. 2-4 hours preparation,1.5 hours on-site 9 months
Families to coordinate monthly meal before classes; prepare, set-up, clean-up and reminder calls as needed. 3-4
hours once per year
Volunteers to act as small group leaders as needed for large group events or retreat. 1-2 hours per event one, two,
or three times per year
Senior High Families to coordinate Intergenerational Dinner. Set-up, clean-up and reminder calls as needed.

Vacation Bible School (July 30-August 3, 2007) Teens to help make crafts, bags, murals, activities, etc. on Wednesday mornings throughout
June and July. 2 hours per week.
Catechists for various age levels. 1 training session, 2 hours prep daily, 3.5 hours daily on site teaching for 1

Catechist aides to assist catechist in any way possible. 1 training session and 3. 5 hour daily assistant role for

Adults/youth for daily childcare for catechists. 3 hour any or all days for 1 week in August

Arts and Crafts Coordinator to create ideas for ages 5-9 daily and lead adult and teen volunteers in the follow through.

Teens to act as music team leaders helping children to learn songs and activities each day under the direction of the music coordinator.

Older teen or adult recreation coordinator to plan games and outdoor recreation for all ages each day under the direction of the staff.

YACC (Youth & Adult Coordinating Committee) Become involved as an adult leader by attending meetings and being willing to act as a

Fall Festival: 10-15 youth to help crafters carry their materials to and from vehicles. 1-1.5 hours morning and/or
evening of craft day

Rainbow Bags (used by children during Mass) Help get the bags in usable order and create new bags for preschoolers as needed.

Seder Adults to help to prepare, set up and experience a modified Seder meal with middle school families or the parish at-large.

MOMS (Ministry of Mothers Sharing)
Coordinator of Marketing and Publicity: Through appropriate use of various media, raise awareness among the larger community of the
benefits of MOMS. Plan, produce and evaluate publicity. 2 hours per week for one year
Coordinator of Childcare: Establish consistent, quality childcare for each of the MOMS sessions. Act as chief liaison between childcare
providers and parents. 4 hours per week for one year
Coordinator of Prayer Ministry: Recruit and develop a community of women who pray for the spiritual success of MOMS as part of the

Working for Justice
ISAIAH-Participate in an ecumenical coalition of 80 congregations that deals with local community issues and addresses larger regional issues
(housing, immigration, education, etc.) and builds relational power for faith-based collective actions in the name of biblical justice and the
common good.
Sowers of Justice (from Archdiocesan Office of Social Justice) - help members act on behalf of justice in their personal, work, and political
life.
Reaching Out in Service
Habitat for Humanity Be part of a team to build a house or make a monetary donation. 1 day per summer
Loaves & Fishes Help prepare, serve and clean-up a meal to those in need at St. Stephen's Church in Minneapolis.

Meals on Wheels Deliver meals to those who have signed up for this program. noon time, 1 or more times per
